Aging is a natural process of any living creature…
And with it, comes greater wisdom, experience, know-how and balance. But, it is also associated with normal and sometimes abnormal, decline in some of our capacities and skills. Thus, we are more prone to suffer from “malfunctions” and diseases, which typically rise with age.
Of all the age-related disease states, Dementia is the most severe. This disease has become so prevalent, 7 out of 10 people have had some level of involvement with Dementia or a related disease such as Alzheimer’s, if not individually, then through the suffering of a friend or family member, who was lost over time.
While the disease cannot be cured, there are ways to prevent Dementia from ever becoming an issue. Our ProtectMyBrain program promotes cognitive health, through physical AND psychological strategies aimed towards sustainable, healthy lifestyle choices that can ultimately prevent the onset of Dementia.

The science behind it all
Several scientific studies agree that physical activity, diet and cognitive stimulation are all foundational to preventing or slowing age-related cognitive decline. These “Brain fitness” interventions have been shown to have sustained effects lasting 10 years or more.
Physical exercise enhances the growth of new brain cells, essential for learning and memory. Other behavioural approaches, including social engagement, good sleep, hygiene, sound nutrition, and meditation, can promote healthy cognitive ageing and are likely to provide cognitive resilience in older age.
Two large studies were conducted to determine how effective all these strategies are, when combined in a multi-domain approach to prevent age-related cognitive decline.
The FINGER study is a landmark study. This randomised assessment of people aged 60-77 was done over several years and included about 1200 people total, with about 600 in each group.
